Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s leading SUV manufacturer, today announced that its iconic SUV, Mahindra Scorpio, achieved yet another milestone when it recorded its highest ever annual sales since inception, with sales of 50,844 units during FY 2011-12 as against 43,451units during FY 2010-11, the Mighty Muscular Scorpio registered a growth of 17 percent.
Mahindra Scorpio’s iconic status can also be gauged from its one million plus fan base on Facebook, yet another significant milestone. In fact, the Scorpio’s online community on Facebook is one of the largest online auto communities on Facebook India. The brand’s popularity is also evident on the Scorpio YouTube channel which has garnered almost 1.5 million views. The magic of Mahindra Scorpio is further seen in the array of impromptu fan clubs initiated by customers in the virtual and real world over the years.

Launched in 2002, the Mighty Muscular Scorpio won three ‘Car of the Year’ awards (BBC on Wheels, CNBC Autocar, Business Standard Motoring) in its launch year and is one of the most awarded automotive brands in the country. Born to break records, the Scorpio edged out most SUVs in the financial year 2011-2012 and took pole position by becoming the Official Intervention Vehicle for all motorsports for a period of five years on the Buddh International Circuit, including the F1TM Airtel Indian Grand Prix held in October 2011.
