Indian Coal Ministry to re-allocate six mines to NTPC and Coal India

The Coal Ministry, Government of India has decided to re-allocate six mines, three each to NTPC Ltd and Coal India Ltd, a BL report said. Public sector power producer NTPC would get Kerandari and Chatti-Bariatu I & II, while Coal India will get the Brahmini, Chichro Patsimal and Kalyaneshwari blocks, noted the report.

Arup Roy Choudhury, NTPC Chairman and Managing Director had said on June 13 after meeting the Coal Minister: 'The Coal Minister, Sriprakash Jaiswalsaid the orders for re-allocation are on their way'. Last year, NTPC’s Kerandari and Chatti-Bariatu I & II blocks were de-allocated by the Government. On the other hand, Brahmini and Chichro Patsimal blocks, awarded to a joint venture between NTPC and Coal India, were also taken back. The Kalyaneshwari block was surrendered by West Bengal Power Development Corporation. The coal reserves in these blocks are not known immediately, added the report.
