According to a statement issued by Indiaprwire, the timing of such a Summit was viewed as very crucial at a time, the Government of India announcing the landmark historical decision to make medicines available to the needy in the form of Generics.

In fact, India has put in place a $5.4 billion policy to provide free medicine to its people, a decision that could change the lives of hundreds of millions, but a ban on branded drugs stands to cut Big Pharma out of the windfall. Many Industry Experts question the implementation of such a policy at a time when the nation is affected by diverse factors such as weak government due to coalition politics, corrupt administration and unstable economic conditions.

While the nation will stand to get benefited from such a grand plan, there will be every question mark on the successful implementation of free for medicine plans, according to Satya Brahma, Editor-In-Chief of Pharmaleaders.
