Capacity of Bhatinda Refinery to be doubled in future says Lakshmi M Mittal

The capacity of the Punjab-based oil refinery, Hindustan Mittal Energy Limited would be doubled to 360,000 barrels a day, according to Lakshmi M Mittal, Chairman of ArcelorMittal, Reuters reported.

While speaking at the inauguration of the new plant at Bhatinda yesterday, Mittal said that the plant could helpo trade ties between India and Pakistan. HMEL, a joint venture between the State run Hindustan Petroleum and Mittal Energy, promoted by Lakshmi Mittal was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh yesterday.

The $ 4 billion plant is located 100 kilometres from the border with Pakistan and 175 kilometres from the city of Lahore, the report added.
