The advancement and the ability to produce products made Panipat weaving industry sustain in global arena, especially to withstand competition from China, according to a fibre2fashion report. The Panipat weaving industry is specialised in the production and export of handloom and home textile products like carpets, rugs, curtains, bath mats and mattresses.

“Around 500,000-600,000 people are directly or indirectly engaged in the highly labour intensive handloom and home textile items weaving sector in Panipat,” according to Lalit Goel, Secretary of Panipat Exporters Association (PEA).
“About Rs. 3.5-4 billion worth of exports are made from Panipat annually. Major export destinations are the US and Europe, in addition to Japan, Australia, South Korea, etc.,” he adds.
When asked about the secret behind Panipat products retaining strong position in global markets, he says, “There is lot of innovation in Panipat weaving industry. People here develop products according to the market demand and requirement, i.e. they make customized products as per the customers’ needs and requirements.”
“Accordingly, the machinery and the system of working keep changing and are modified. This flexibility and creativity has helped Panipat products to sustain in the global market and retain a strong position,” the official informs.
When speaking about the competition from China, he says, “The main competitor of our highly labour intensive and creative sector is China. It has expertise in making single colour products, while we stress on designs and use different colors, which has enabled us to withstand competition.”
